When we talk about some of the most memorable sitcoms that defined Hollywood pop culture, Friends is one of the first names that comes to mind.
The ‘90s hit show was so popular among viewers that it earned its stars $1 million per episode for the final season, the highest amount ever paid to any television star in history.
The paycheck was well deserved, especially since the five friends featured in the show remain etched in our memories to this day. So much so that fans have been asking, even begging, for a Friends reunion for years, and their wish might soon be granted.
According to a recent announcement, HBO Max is planning to bring the cast together for an epic reunion special that will be an hourlong unscripted episode to get the fans up to speed with what their favorite Friends characters have been up to since the series finale was aired more than a decade ago.
This might also be a great opportunity for the actors to make a quick buck as the streaming service is offering the lead actors $2 million each, twice the amount they made in the final season.
Although HBO has yet to announce when the episode will air, sources claim that it is already in talks with the main stars of the show, namely, Jennifer Aniston, Matt Le Blanc, David Schwimmer, Courtney Cox, Mathew Perry, and Lisa Kudrow. HBO Max, which is the latest streaming initiative by WarnerMedia is expected to make a debut in May and will be the home to all of the Friends’ past seasons as well as the potential reunion special.
There have been speculations about how much the stars could make from this project, with sources claiming that negotiations are currently underway but it wouldn’t be a surprise if the cast walks away with a whopping paycheck of $4 million each!
Warner Bros. is yet to confirm how much money is actually involved in the project but fans are already excited after Mathew Perry and Jennifer Aniston recently joined Instagram, a potential hint towards an upcoming promotion campaign for the special episode.
Aniston’s arrival on the photo-sharing app was record-breaking as the actress gained an impressive 1 million followers in less than 5 hours. Perry also teased the episode on his Twitter account, telling fans that he would soon share some ‘big news’ with them. Hmm… we wonder what it could be.
